Starting as an apprentice in 1964, I served a five year apprenticeship with a long established firm, specializing in private work. Whilst working and learning the trade, I also attended Blackburn College of Art and Design leading to my achievement of City and Guilds Advanced Craft with Distinction.In those days we mixed our own paints from cash white lead, linseed and Japan driers adding strainers for the required colour. Today, as technology changes, I can apply those traditional techniques using modern water based alternatives, still achieving the quality finish of Victorian craftsmen.
